BrainStorm is a good complement to the mind mappers you mention. Usually, outlines created by one can be understood by the other. BrainStorm allows more information, more flexibility - grab stuff from your head, from the web etc. Infinitely move-around-able. Text only. The Thinkerlog blog has a lot of user comment and other information about complementary programs, such as those above.

Brainstorm
Yep - Brianstorm is a great product for communicators as well, but it didn’t appear to support XML in any way. I’ve never used it, but many folks have raved about it.
