New Bloggers Visiting :: New Free Blogs Project

Good news. Our new bloggers are getting active. Sara was the first to post a comment here. Kudos to Sara! You will see more (a minimum of 25 a week), too.

Also, the bloggers have started their own sites. And, by doing so - they are kicking off our newest project. Free blogs for PR practitioners, educators and students. Please visit PRblogs.org. The student blog URLs are listed in the latest two posts. Their first posts are a little background about them.

Free blogs for public relations practitioners, educators and students. An alpha site experimenting with building blogging communities.

Anyone may sign up for a blog. Simple process. Fill in three boxes and receive an email with your password and blog address.

The site is still under development, but it is working. Students will work further on the site and also start seeking out / pitching the free blogs to educators, practitioners and students around the world.

What Do You Get? (If you sign up for a free blog.)

* WordPress 1.6 (Alpha) - the latest WordPress version (MultiUser)
* 10MB of image upload
* Free Blog
* Unique Web address: yourname.prblogs.org
* Very simple process.
* Read the About page.

I hope this will help us develop a small (or large) community of new PR bloggers. It is a niche group, so I’m not too sure about the numbers we might generate. Your comments/suggestions about the project are welcome. This is one more hands-on project for the students undertake.

Please note that this new software/script (WordPress MultiUser) is in the Alpha stage of production. The latest seems pretty stable, but - as all developers will tell you - mileage will vary. We will not upgrade unless we’re sure the upgrade is reliable. Still, I want anyone that gets a blog there to know that it is Alpha software. It has great potential to be a long running project. Best use now may be for people to try out blogging. See what it is like. But, the blogs will stay as long as we have hosting.

Many thanks go out to James Farmer (UK) for his participation in this project. James and I went in together on this. It is a version of his edublogs.org project. Check out his latest series of posts in BlogSavvy about “Giving Blogs” and how it is the next step in starting your own communities. James has some wonderful ideas about incorporating blogs / CMS into education. A very enjoyable site - and person. Check it out.
