Stephen Davies says that his blog helped him land an internship at LEWIS PR. Of course connecting with PR blogger/LEWIS employee Morgan McLintic helps out :-)

I think we’ll be seeing much more of this over the next few years. I know if I was in charge of internships/hiring at a PR firm one of the first things I’d look for would be blogging/social media experience. Of course having your own blog is a great way to show that you ‘get’ this blogging thing :-)

How many Marcomblog students have had an edge in landing internships/jobs because you blog?

Certainly we have plenty of bad news to digest every day…it seems like that is all that the news agencies want to shove at us…bad, bleeding, ugly news. The beauty of RSS Readers and online news consumption is that you don’t have to wade through all the crap to get to what you want…you just read ONLY what you want.

I digress. As I’ve kept my ear to the dirt these last six months or so (an Apache trick taught to me by a wise old friend)…I’ve felt some rumblings. It’s the sound of corporate budgets opening up. As we’ve seen the Dow finally creep over 11,000 for the first time since 2001, I’ve also witnessed more new job hirings and more spending by marketing and communications departments. None of this is officially linked and I don’t have any stats to prove it out. Like much of my business career, I’m going on a hunch here…a gut feeling.

That’s good news for you graduating students. There has been an absolute dearth of good job offerings for new professionals for the last several years. Agencies that have been shrinking are now growing again…efficiently and carefully, but growing nonetheless.

If we’re not careful, the news might actually begin reporting optimism…good faith…positive events…

Nah.
