Katie Couric's arrival to CBS nighttime news wasn't what I was hoping for. I consider the nighttime newscast to be more serious and hard news, and her performance and commentary mimicked that of her morning news style and typical topics. I don't think most business men want to hear about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby, but they would like to hear about news around the world instead.

I agreed with Robert Bianco's comment that there was nothing outstanding about her performance either way. She was, like I stated before, just the same as she was on the Today Show.

Overall, I wasn't impressed with her debut, but I hear that she is doing much better now.

I know I've commented on this subject before, but I wanted to revisit it and leave a reply about how Katie is doing now.

It seems that Katie has a wide and very diverse audience with hopes to become the new 'Tom Brokaw'.

Her viewers have accepted the change of pace with over 75% of CBS watchers saying they think Katie is doing an excellent job and that CBS made a good decision going with Katie.

Although her debut wasn't too hot, I think Katie is here to stay and hopefully she will be even more accepted in the years to come.

Even though my response to this blog is late, these reviews of Katie Couric were new and unfamiliar to me. I was greatly surprised and in shock upon reading the beginning of her reviews which stated that there was more criticism than praise about her debut as anchor on "CBS Evening News." Never did the thought of Couric being criticized more than praised as an anchor cross my mind. She is an outstanding anchor who is well-talented and always performs her job well. However, I then read and realized why there was more criticism than positive support for Couric as the CBS evening anchor- the material and its lack of substantial content that she was providing was the main hit of criticism. With an anchor like Couric, content such as a picture and information on Tom Cruise's and Katie Holmes' baby is not expected and is below what Couric should be presenting. The world is tired of receiving useless information such as that of Hollywood's drama and offspring and expects to see higher content information delivered by Couric, instead of juicy, unimportant tabloid material. I agree with the criticims that Couric received as her debut anchor night with CBS. Couric needs to step it up a notch and learn how to present whatever information CBS assigns her to discuss and present it in a memorable way that the audience will remember; Couric has continuously done it before, but can she do it now?
Thanks for the information Dee Rambeau!

Katie Couric has the potential to be a very good anchor for CBS if she is given the chance. The less-than-impressive reviews of her thus far are a little premature. I, myself, find Couric to be a little too opinionated to report news other than entertainment and celebrity reports, but even I can see that she has potential. I believe that the very experienced crew at CBS will help her further grow and mature as a reporter. The critics should hold their tongues for a little while and see what happens. She is in a completely different reporting atmosphere. Let's see how she adjusts to her new environment first and then we can make our judgments.

I am such a huge fan of Katie Couric. I have watched Katie for years on the Today show and she was always so light hearted, fun, and interesting. The Today team had synergy, lots of laughter, and reported the news in a great way. I watched the CBS news the other night and I was highly disappointed. Maybe I thought that she would appear the same as on the Today Show, however the newscasting was so serious that I wanted to turn it off. There were hardly any smiles from Katie and the news reports were disjointed -- some cut in interviews and then back to a regular report. All in all I did not like it. I miss Katie so much on the Today Show. She brought such life into the morning show. I am proud of Katie for making the move, but she will have to make her reporting more interesting or CBS will have to have more interesting news stories to report in order for me to continue to watch the CBS evening news.

I still have mixed feelings about whether or not Katie Couric should have left The Today Show. I loved her on The Today Show, and I felt like her personality might have been better suited for that show. However, I have not yet watched her on CBS. I don't think it was a good idea for her to use Suri's picture on the first show. It definitely seems like she used this picture to attract publicity as well as viewers. I think people are so used to seeing her on The Today Show so it's not surprising that she would get mixed and negative reviews for her new anchoring job. She has such a vivacious personality and sometimes that doesn't correlate with the serious nightly news. I am somewhat surprised that CBS allowed her to talk about Tom Cruise's daughter on the nightly news. Maybe they should regulate what stories they let her broadcast over the news.

I watched Katie Couric on the today show nearly every morning I could and I was always intrigued by her professional, yet fun, journalism style. She made the morning news fun and entertaining to watch. I was very disappointed when she left the Today show last spring to go to CBS and lead the nightly news. But now, I find myself flipping to CBS to listen to the days events presented by Couric.
She has been an icon to my generation. I grew up thinking, "I want to be like Katie Couric" someday. She is a role model who many young women aspire to. I praise her for taking a big step in her career and taking the lead anchor position, especially with all of the negative publicity she received from leaving the Today show. But in the big picture, Couric was only moving on and following her own dreams.
As far as the first broadcast goes, I am disappointed she used Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes baby picture as a way to gain publicity and attract viewers to the show. This screams publicity stunt and I'm sure the viewers saw right through it. Overall, I feel this "stunt" hurt Couric's credibility as a news anchor. But she still has a long way to go, and I know I will tune into CBS nightly news on a regular basis now.

Maybe it is a little too early to be creating such opinions of her performance. Whenever there is change there is going to be criticism. I think I would agree with Robert Bianco of USA Today in his comment that, “It’s hard to see how anything she did on the newscast could possibly have earned a strong reaction either way. But regardless of what anyone says, people have there opinions. As for now I will keep watching before I make my decision. Just wish they could have picked someone a little better than Meredith Vieira to take Katie's place. Something about her just bothers me, she is so argumentative.

In the weeks before her debut on CBS the critics were questioning if Katie would do a good job. Of course she would do a good job she is professional. She has been doing the news for a long time and there are not that many ways to mess up the news.

I think she did a great job and will continue to do a great job. People just need to have some time to get used to her being on at night. When you think of Katie Couric you think of a bubbly morning news anchor but she was able to adapt well to the change. She will do a great job it is just going to take some time and some better news stories.

Katie Couric is probably one of the most respected women in America. She's known as the "sweetheart" as well as being intelligent. I feel that in her career she has proved she is aware of what's going on in the world and that she cares. It's easy to watch her because she's so comfortable in front of the camera and she knows how to not only talk to, but communicate with those she interviews. I think that most people are looking forward to having her as a nightly anchor. As with everything in the world, of course she is going to receive criticism and harsh reviews from some. However I think that she will prove to be an excellent choice for CBS. My only complaint was that her first night surrounded around Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. She handled herself well though, and I think she is going to be very good at her new job.
